Dog lovers everywhere are taking advantage of all the many ways to pamper their favorite canine. Don't forget your dog's birthday, and throw a party to remember.

There are millions of pet lovers in the United States and all over the world. Loyal and dedicated pet owners see their beloved Fluffy or Fido as children, so it would make sense to throw a birthday party when your pooch turns another year older. It is fun for you, and it is great fun for your dog, too. If you have never given your dog a party before, then it is time to get started. Here is how you can throw a howling good time for your favorite pup.

Plan the Event

If your dog has other doggie friends, then this is a great time to invite the whole gang. Consider where you might have the party first. If you are inviting other dogs, then an outside location is probably best. Go to your local park, or set up a party area in your backyard. This will help cut down on the mess that could happen inside your home. After you have secured a firm date and location, it is time to send off the invitations.

Invitation Ideas

There are many ways you can invite your dog’s friends to the birthday party. You can get crafty and cut bone shapes out of cardstock paper or you can attach an invitation to a new doggie toy. You might also want to think about having your party to benefit dogs that are not so fortunate. Perhaps you could mention on your invitation to bring donations of dog food, toys or other items in lieu of gifts. These in turn could be donated to your local pet shelter or rescue organization.

Dog Activities

With a bunch of dogs at your doggie party, you need to plan some activities. Of course, you won’t want to play ring around the rosy or pin the tail on the donkey. Instead, think from your pooch’s perspective. How about a couple of wading pools full of water (make sure you have some dry towels on hand) or set up a dog obstacle course for the pups to play around. Some dogs will be happy just to hang out with the others, but some may need a few fun activities. If you are still thinking about helping other less-fortunate dogs, then how about hosting a dog wash at your party? You could ask for donations. Not only will it help others, it will leave everyone smelling fresh and clean.

Treats and Goodies

No birthday party would be complete without a few treats and goodies. Make sure you have plenty of treats and fresh water on hand for your barking guests, as well as your human guests. You can buy gourmet dog treats at your local pet store, and maybe you could even bag them up and let the dogs take them home for party favors, too.

Whatever you do, you know everyone will have a great time at your dog’s birthday party. Take lots of pictures and have fun! Make sure you send out thank you cards. Your dog can even sign them with a paw print.
