Sharing is a difficult concept for young children to understand. Make a fun lesson out of teaching your preschoolers about how to share with these ideas.

The ideas below may help you when teaching your preschoolers a lesson sharing. Feel free to use these ideas to supplement your current curriculum or to make your own lesson.

Story Suggestions

  • 2 Kings 4:8-11 - A kind couple shares a room, a bed, and food with Elisha.
  • 1 Samuel 18:1-4 - Jonathan shares his most prized possessions with David.
  • Exodus 35:4-29; 39:42-43 - The Israelites share their wealth to build a tabernacle.

Games

Ring Around the Rosie

Directions: Play the game the traditional way! The lyrics are as follows:

Ring around the Rosie, a pocket full of posies, ashes, ashes, we all fall down.

Play with Puzzles

Directions: Count how many students you have and lay out half that number of puzzles, so the children will have to work in pairs to complete the puzzle. This will help them learn to share to reach a common goal.

Snacks

A good snack for this lesson would be:

Use Hershey's Hugs & Kisses candies as a snack, along with a vegetable tray. Tell the children that they must give their candy to another child, and wait for someone to give them a candy.

Another good snack idea for this lesson would be:

Peanut Butter Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Combine the ingredients and mix well.
  3. Roll into 1 inch balls.
  4. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes.

Optional: You can place a Hershey's Kiss on top of each immediately upon removing from the oven.

Art Center Ideas

Sharing Activity Page

Directions: Print the activity sheet below for the children to add their own pictures. The subjects are sharing at home, sharing with friends, and sharing at church. Supply the children with crayons.

Sharing Hands Wreath

Materials:

  • Construction Paper
  • Pencil
  • Glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Paper plates
  • Stickers, crayons, and other decorating materials
  • Hole punch
  • String

Directions:

Note: It will help to have an adult helper for this project.

  1. Trace at least eight hands for each child on sheets of construction paper. Cut out the hand shapes. You may opt to just cut hand shapes before the class and have them ready to go for the rest of the craft.
  2. While the children are decorating their hand prints with stickers, crayons, and other materials, you can do the following. Cut out the center circle of a paper plate (one plate per child). Discard the circles or save them for another craft.
  3. Use the bottom side of the paper plate to have children glue their hands in a circle around the plate.
  4. Punch a hole in the paper plate and thread a piece of string through the hole. Tie the string in a knot. Now the wreath is ready to hang up at home.

Suggested Prayer (or use your own)

Lord, please teach me to share with all my friends, teach me a love that never ends. Lord, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for my friends in this place. In Jesus' name, Amen.
